The Lorain County Drug Repository Prescription Assistance program was created in 2007 in accordance with 2001-2002 Ohio General Assembly’s House Bill Number 221, also known as “Karon’s Law.” The bill allowed for the creation of a warehouse to accept and distribute donated prescription drugs to individuals in need who meet eligibility criteria. Initially, program financial assistance was provided by the Community Foundation of Greater Lorain County. The Lorain County Drug Repository’s creation was a cooperative effort between the following agencies:

Helping Medications Reach Those Who Need Them

Unused prescription medications from participating care facilities are safely redistributed to eligible patients, improving access to essential medications for those without adequate prescription coverage.

Collects donated medications

The Drug Repository receives unused prescription medications from nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

Connects eligible patients

Medical providers determine eligibility and coordinate enrollment with Buderer Fisher Drug Company and Lorain County Public Health.

Provides medications at no cost

Donated prescription drugs are distributed to eligible individuals who have limited or no prescription drug coverage.
